Flight options:

ATHENS AIRPORT – ARGOSTOLI – SAMI – ITHACA

Option 1 – If bus and ferry put you off you still have one alternative.  Flying Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines have flights from Athens to Argostoli, Kephalonia several days per week.  From Argostoli you’ll need to catch a taxi to Sami from where you have a choice of two ferries.  The Kefalonia which arrives each day at 3.30pm or the small ferry from Lefkada which arrives around 3pm.  Both go to Ithaca.

Flight hours – 1

Driving hours -¾

Ferry (small) hours -40 mins

Ferry (Kefalonia) hours — 1 (when docking at Vathy) 20min (When docking at P/Aetos)

Note: With Aegean Airlines From 1st May they have a flights leaving Athens at about 11;30, retuning to Athens at around 14:30 with some special deals as low as 23 euro return. Worthwhile looking into if coming from Athens and there seems to be no problem catcthing the ferry to Ithaca on the same day.

Option 2 – Check with your travel agent for charter flights going directly to Cephalonia. From May to September/October Tour Groups can sometimes have spare seats on their flights.

?ption 3 – Each day from Kifissou Bus Depot in Athens, KTEL buses leave hourly for Patras. In Patras,  Strintzis – Blue Star ferries – The Kefalonia departs twice daily for ??falonia and Ithaca, once at 12.30pm and again at 8.30pm. The 12.30 pm ferry reaches the Port of Piso Aetos in southern Ithaca around 4pm and the 8.30pm ferry docks at the port in Vathy, also in Southern Ithaca, around 12.30am. Alternatively, at Kiffisou Bus Terminal there is also a bus/ferry available daily at 8am. This ticket takes you directly from Athens right onto the ferry and then Ithaca. The ferry makes a stop at Sami in Kefalonia where the bus will disembark, so you will need to take your luggage from the bus once the bus is on the ferry.   From Sami the ferry continues on to Ithaca before returning again to Sami and then onto Patras.
